LogiMAT 2022: KAUP focusses on “Smart Load Control”

Aschaffenburg, 30 March 2022 – KAUP GmbH & Co. KG (KAUP) celebrates the official world premiere of 'Smart Load Control' (SLC) at the 18th LogiMAT. This is a patented, intelligent system that regulates the clamping force of appliance clamps depending on the load.

“After we were unable to present the long-planned world innovation for the well-known reasons, we decided to formally present the innovative system at this year’s LogiMAT”, says Managing Director Holger Kaup. “SLC fundamentally changes the handling with appliance clamps, and our industry should experience that”, is the reason Holger Kaup gives for the decision to catch up with the world innovation.

Already over 250 systems in use

KAUP reacted to the lack of trade fair presentations in recent years by changing to digital formats. In this way, ‘Smart Load Control‘ has already reached numerous buyers and interested parties. To the extent that Holger Kaup, not without some pride, can report: “SLC is impressing the market. As a result, we have been already able to sell the system over two hundred times. It is in use daily in the widest variety of industries with well-known users.”

But what does ‘Smart Load Control‘ mean? Above all, it means damage-free handling. For the aim of 'Smart Load Control' is to ensure that only as much clamping force is applied to the load as is actually necessary. The system is based on the weight and not on the dimensions of the load. Neither a previous definition of the clamping force nor an intervention by the forklift operator is necessary for this. In fact, 'Smart Load Control' determines the weight to be transported at the beginning of each transport process and adjusts the necessary clamping force –  the pressure – to that weight. In this way SLC always guarantees damage-free handling of the goods and also enables higher opening and closing speeds and energy savings of up to 30%.

While other manufacturers are working with more and more sensors and cameras, KAUP is going its own way with 'Smart Load Control'. The developers focused on a clear differentiation between attachments and forklifts and on 'plug and play'. 'Smart Load Control' is the only system for appliance clamps on the market that functions autonomously and without intervention in the forklift hydraulic system. It only needs a power supply. Otherwise it works self-contained. Advantage of this approach: SLC is more accurate, responds faster, relieves the driver and protects the transported goods. In addition, 'Smart Load Control' can log the clamp pressure used for each transport operation.

LogiMAT 2022: return of KAUP to the trade fair halls

Attendance at the 18th LogiMAT is the first participation at a trade fair for KAUP for over two years. The 126 m2 trade stand relies on a proven concept for the three days of the fair. On the one hand, space is available to meet people personally again and to talk. On the other, the possibility is opened up to explain the advantages of SLC and the completely revised appliance clamps with two current-generation, appliance clamps on display.

Appliance clamps completely revised

SLC is not the only thing to bundle innovations: the newly designed appliance clamps in the T414B model range do it too. With this product family, changes were made at multiple design points at once in order to achieve greater stability, speed, visibility, sustainability and long life, as well as improved servicing and maintenance-friendliness.

The arm connection is new i.e. the connection of pressure frame and carriage. The modular design of the pressure frame has also been redesigned. It is now significantly more compact and it consists of fewer individual parts. An integral part of the revised pressure plates is the new, particularly abrasion-proof coating: rubber with a grooved profile that is vulcanised directly onto the support plate. In the event of one-sided wear of the coating, it is no longer necessary to replace it completely. Changing the sides of the clamping arms including a 180° rotation extends the service life. Additional wear pads on the bottom of the pressure plate also have a prolonging effect. They protect the bottom side of the arm and can be easily replaced after wear has occurred.

Fork-lift drivers also benefit directly from an update of the appliance clamps. This is because for better visibility, KAUP installs more fixed pipes in the new appliance clamps than its predecessor.

New options for even better utilisation

The clamping arms of KAUP appliance clamps have defined preload and a preset camber. KAUP provides two optional extras for the current generation to adjust the above-mentioned factors so that preload and camber can be adapted even better to the respective goods to be transported. They allow independent adjustment of camber and preload on site. Simple tools are sufficient.
