For greater safety at work Explosion-proof Drum Tipping Clamp
TUNAP is an internationally active group of companies with its headquarters in Wolfratshausen, Bavaria. It processes raw materials into chemical agents, liquids and technical aerosols at four production sites.
The initial situation:
The TUNAP Group (TUNAP) develops and produces various chemical-technical products at its Wolfratshausen site. The production site is certified in accordance with various ISO standards, including ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety). However, TUNAP does not only focus on occupational safety to fulfil the requirements of the certification. Instead, the protection of people and the environment is a practised corporate value. This is why production processes are continuously evaluated and modernised where necessary, as in this case.
However, it was not so easy for the company to find the right solution. "We searched for some time to be able to redesign the drum emptying process in our potentially explosive environment," says Thomas Riedl, who is responsible for this part of production at TUNAP, among other things. "A lot of research was therefore necessary," continues the industrial mechanic. "We finally turned to KAUP together with Gruma, the supplier of the carrier vehicle."
The handling task – what is it about?
Steel and plastic drums of different dimensions are placed next to each other on CP3 pallets. The clamp is designed to grip and lift these drums hydraulically and, if necessary, empty them entirely – for example, into IBC containers.
A special scenario also occurs regularly: Heated steel drums must be removed from a furnace and emptied or transported to the cooling area.
