Boat handling: an alternate approach Special Conveyor attachment in use

In this port project in southern France, fragile boats are being moved in a confined space. No problem with the right combination of attachments and forklift.

The initial situation:

The task facing our French subsidiary was a challenging one: in a port in the south of France, sensitive boats up to 8 metres long and weighing up to 4 tonnes had to be safely removed from a high-bay dry dock (‘dry stack’) in a confined space and lowered to the water's edge. No easy task with these dimensions! At the same time, protecting the sensitive boats is a top priority. KAUP developed a specialised attachment for this purpose with the following technical features:

  • Swivelling arms for maximum flexibility when manoeuvring.
  • Specially coated load-bearing parts to prevent surface damage.
  • Rubber stops on the fork back for gentle lifting of the load.

The customised design was finalised in close consultation with the Kalmar design department to ensure perfect integration into the carrier vehicle.

Solution:

  • A Conveyor attachment 24T099IR-Y in a spread version for carrying one boat, adapted to a Kalmar DCG100-12T.

Success:

  • Extremely short project implementation phase: less than ten months passed between the initial enquiry, order receipt and delivery.
